Orcas Island Camping

For our only camping trip this summer we traveled to Orcas Island. Somehow we had never taken the kids to the San Juans despite being one of the most scenic destinations in the state. We camped at Moran State Park in a very small and somewhat slanted site, but we made the best of it. Cascade Lake was a short walk from the park which allowed Rachel to get in some paddleboarding. I was training for a triathlon at the time so I got in some swimming along with a three mile run around the lake.

On our second day we drove to the top of Mount Constitution to get a sweeping view of the San Juan Islands. It was a bit smokey from Canadian wildfires, but a good still a good view. We also did a short hike at Obstruction Pass State Park and along Cascade Creek.

On our last day we did another short hike along Cascade creek to see its various waterfalls. On our drive back to the ferry we stopped at Orcas Island Winery for some wine tasting. They had surprisingly good wine for an island winery, though they were not an estate winery.
