We visited the North Rim of the Grand Canyon on our last road trip and returned this time to see the South Rim. It was hotter, more crowded and less forested than the North Rim, but the views were nearly the same. Like the North Rim it was impossible to take in all the contours, colors and shapes of the canyon. We stayed at Maswik Lodge in Grand Canyon Village and spent most of our time hiking along the Rim Trail and checking out various view points. Despite being flat the trail was hot and at a high elevation which resulted in some family grumbling. Fortunately there were shuttles stopping at the various view points to give us a break from walking. We ended our stay by driving out on Desert View Drive which provided more overwhelming viewpoints. The kids seemed to have seen enough of the Grand Canyon. The next time we visit will be by raft.
