In two weeks our road trip covered around 4000 miles, 9 states and 6 national parks. Our focus was the national parks, but there were a few other stops along the way. We visited Four Corners which is the point where Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah meet. It was a bit expensive to visit, especially considering it's just a point, but we had to do it to say we did it.
Later on near Rocky Mountain National Park we met up with my brother Mark and his wife Cindy for a hike around Lily Lake and a visit to Estes Park, specifically the Stanley Hotel. The hotel really pushed it's connections to The Shining book and movie despite it not being featured in the movie. Later on we spent a night at my brother's home in Fort Collins and we got to meet up with my niece Amy, her husband Mike and their daughter Evan.
After our visit to Grand Teton National Park we did our longest one day drive ever at 900 miles to return home. During that time we stopped at a Grand Teton visitor center, drove through Yellowstone National Park, watched Old Faithful do it's thing and finally drive home. We didn't get home until 3 am, but it was worth it as we got to sleep in our own beds a day early.
It was another great Fry family road trip and perhaps the last big one. We've covered all the parks in the western third of the country and going further would require extensive driving. Also with Rachel moving off to college we may not pull off a long road trip as a family of five again. The future holds many unknown opportunities for us yet to experience.
