On our drive to Sunriver, we saw a sign for the High Desert Museum. Rachel looked it up and found out they had river otters; after that, we were forced to go. The museum was an interesting mix of a zoo, ranch, and science center. The river otter exhibit was a highlight, but they had other animals including birds of prey, turtles, a porcupine, and a bobcat. The ranch was much like a pioneer village with buildings reflecting eras of American expansion. There was also a volcano exhibit which initially seemed out of place, but it covered the history of volcanic activity in the surrounding area. The museum was a unique experience that the whole family enjoyed.
